The 68th UP Alumni Engineers Homecoming (UPAE) Homecoming, with the theme "Inhenyero ng Bayan: Kaagapay sa Malawakang Pag-unlad" recognized three distinguished alumni of the UP Electrical and Electronics Engineering Institute (UP EEEI), on 12 November 2016, at the Manila Polo Club.
Dr. Luis G. Sison (BS EE' 91) of the UP EEEI received the Professional Degree Award for Electronics & Communication Engineering Award for his contributions in the field as an academician, a project leader of the DOST-UP Enterprise Center for Technopreneurship where he advises startup companies on technology and business strategy, a Director of the UP Technology Transfer Office, a Laboratory Head of the UP EEEI- Innovations Research Center, and as the former Vice Chancellor for Research and Development.
The National Achievement Award for Finance was awarded to Senior Executive Vice President and Head of the Financial Markets Sector for Metropolitan Bank and Trust Company, Fernand Antonio A. Tansingco (BS EE '88). He is recognized for his exceptional banking and finance career experience from the 90s to today.
Chairman and CEO of Telmarc Corporation, Edgardo A. Paynor (BS EE '70) was hailed as the National Achievement Awardee for Entrepreneurship Information Technology. He has been in the business since the 90s and is known to have lead the company that "operates CATV systems and wired broadband internet in Taytay, Angono, Binangonan, Morong, and Teresa, Rizal and Alaminos, San Pablo, Calauan, and Victoria in Laguna."
The UPAE Professional Degree Achievement Award is given to the outstanding alumnus/alumna who have excelled nationally/internationally in his/her respective field of profession/ career. On one hand, Achievement Awards (e.g. National and Global) are given to alumni who have made outstanding accomplishments in areas of endeavor related to engineering field, thereby contributing to the development and improvement of the profession. Particular awards under this category may vary depending on the nominations received by UPAE.
UP alumna Tuesday Vargas and UPAE's own Dante Briones served as the event’s masters of ceremony.
